in this offering by the berlin-based and made in the middle east label disco halal, we urge you to meet nadav spiegel, better known as autarkic. autarkic is a self-sufficient artist and live virtuoso, he is the first member of the disco halal family which will be releasing his music in spring 2016. “can you pass the knife?” is about the struggle being stucked in a gap between longing to his homeland and what it could have been like and a heavy criticism on what it actually became. it will be a mini-lp containing 6 mesmerizing songs, “asi keta g”, “solo gun”, “watch out”, “the misorientation of autarkic”, “ufo (space version)” and “tender lies”. that might sound like only a combination of random words now, but after being heard, these songs will help you to enter the embodiment of autarkic​ and allow you to save a piece of his soul on your shelf. shimmering melodies, gibberish language, haunting vocals, extended beat programming and one-take recordings, should mark the beginning of a new disco halal phase. after releasing mainly edits from around the transcultural hemmesphere, the transition to original exquisite music seems to be a necessity.

with two releases already under his belt on clone, gary gritness aka slikk tim lands on hypercolour with the sugar cane chronicles vol. 1. gritness may be a relatively new name on the block, but his session work for artists like kenny bobien, louie vega and grant nelson has marked up this multi-instrumentalist as a clear talent. hailing from france, gritness had been spotted by underground resitances mad mike banks as one to watch, and on his hypercolour release, displays a deft hand of producing futuristic funk sounds. a spot on blend of raw drum programming and blissfull jazz funk riffs, preachin some tight game sets the eps tone just right with its infectious melodies and cruising groove. darker 1980s soundtrack vibes are explored on stayin strong hand with its thick analogue atmosphere, whilst the laid back and freestyle vibes of working girls demands to be played in the cadillac with the top down! ep closer, fly shit, continues with the tranquil melodies and g-funk factor.

french producer juliano delivers the next ep, entitled * this must be...*, on his own imprint * that place records*. fourth in line on the label, following on from releases from visitors for reworks, mzkbx (aka sacha mambo) and love comedy, the now berlin-based artist gifts his very first ep to the collection. as a dj, juliano has spent the last 13 years honing his craft - first cutting his teeth holding down a residency at l ambassade, and then going on to play all over france and throughout europe. over a decade of digging and spinning has led juliano to develop a refined palette and a knack for finding tunes that make the dance floor bounce. strongly influenced by us house, * panaugust* is a real dance floor killer with its never ending synth. the more emotional * anthem for a friend* is a real tribute, drawing inspiration from chicago and detroit such as the real mess with its special rhythm & blues vibe. finally, cupid mess brings a touch of japanese mood, evoking images of an early-morning rising sun thanks to the classic juno6 sound. julianos ethos is that music should stay fun - preferring to keep things simple, but always real. watch out for this one.

shortly after his first ep on dnuos ytivil, sub-division of bristol imprint livity sound, simo cell, neo-parisian and nantes native, puts his second release out on fragil musique. on this one, the young producer asserts his bass-tainted electro influences. highly skilled and very technical dj, but above all open to bridges between genres and eras, the record feels like he conceived it for his own club usage. on the a side, two subtle twin tracks, -reading rashid- and -soko ban-. cycling melodies and hypnotic pads sketch two bass outlines, as simple as effective, that seem perfectly fit for switching from a stripped down techno track to an old jungle weapon. on the flip, hit track -meteor racer- is surprising. a rawer and more stripped down electro piece that lifts the veil a bit more on the young producers talent. those four brilliantly crafted track definitely place simo cell among the french newcomers to watch closely.

stockholm based label parabel calls upon pioneering heavyweight joel mull, who steps up to deliver a three track ep of moody, cinematic brilliance. with only their second release, parabel are already asserting themselves as the label to watch.

after last autumn’s ‘knowledge ep’, héctor oaks returns to key vinyl with four more solid dancefloor fillers of the kind we’re starting to expect from the berlin-based upstart. now several records deep and with his fourth berghain set firmly behind him, these days his sound is about as honed and gratifying as skills from the booth. and ‘kepler 186f’ is the proof.

berlin-based roundqubemusik welcomes cristopher ledger (the code studio, berlin) with seventh orphism ep which includes three original tracks plus a remix from gabriele carasco & francesco passantino. judging by the vastly different set of sounds used here, from the elegance of the piano to the hypnotism and abstractism of the synths mostly due to experiments with modular synthesis. seventh orphism is an ep which marks out ledger as a very good artist to watch out for.

lukas simmer is a prestigious name on the underground house/techno scene, making his debut here on wrong state recordings with a strong four track ep that marks him out as one to watch. with a background as a sound technician and musician, he has a solid grounding in the world of composing and producing music - which is clear to hear in this debut.

swedish underground powerhouses mr tophat & art alfie return to bass culture with their second ep for the label after the phenomenal success of their first outing, which picked up strong support from across the scene, particularly from ricardo villalobos. this time around, they drop two hefty slabs of disco-tinged house imbued with their own distinct flavour throughout. ‘dub the rub’ pumps along with an infectious groove, tough percussion powers along with a rolling bassline. watch out for the vocal-led breakdown midway through, killer! on the flip, ‘fnatt’ works around a more traditional melodic house motif, tender and bright with a lush b-line and captivating vocals made to move your body and soul.
